Projects from my Malaysian students, 2014. UT has substituted their previous Career Short Answer with a direct request to discuss why you want to study what you want to study. Why are you interested in the major you indicated as your first-choice major? I appreciate the change in prompt because students need to cover less territory. Before, in order to discuss your career ambitions, you necessarily needed to discuss how UT will help further your academic knowledge and skills in the meantime.

Completing 40 hours of introductory Bahasa Indonesia language class. Many universities have an "Honors College" that houses their best students regardless of their major. UT-Austin instead has ten "honors programs" for students majoring in Liberal Arts, the McCombs Business, the Cockrell School of Engineering, the Moody College of Communication, or the College of Natural Sciences.

A day at the office in Maninoa, Samoa. Computer Science is one of UT’s most popular majors. Universities nationwide have experienced exponential growth in their CS application numbers. Ten years ago, UT received less than a thousand CS applicants. Now, it wouldn’t surprise me if more than 6,000 applied for an admissions rate of less than 15%. For fall 2019, 729 CS applicants gained admission with 403 enrolling.

The application hasn’t even opened as of writing July 10, and they’re already off to a poor start. Let me tell you how I really feel because somebodies got to do it, and I know thousands of people and educators will share my frustrations.
