Some University of California Schools Extend Application Deadline

• The University of California has announced that application deadlines have been extended for students who want to enroll at certain campuses for the fall 2024 semester.
• UC Merced has extended the deadline for first-year students in select majors and transfer students.
• UC Davis, Irvine, Riverside, San Diego, Santa Barbara, and Santa Cruz extended the deadline for transfer students in specific majors.
• The deadline is now Jan. 15, 2024.

Students who did not get a chance to apply to the University of California (UC) now have a second chance to get their application in to be considered for admittance for the fall 2024 semester.

UC has extended the application deadline from Nov. 30 to Jan. 15 for seven of the 10 campuses in the system, primarily for transfer students.

Deadline extensions are as follows:

• UC Merced: First-year student applications and transfer applications for most majors
• UC Irvine: Transfer applications for select majors
• UC Davis, Riverside, San Diego, Santa Barbara, and Santa Cruz: Transfer application for all majors

At UC Irvine, over 50 majors are included in the extended deadline, including African-American studies, chemistry, political science, history, and several engineering programs including biomedical, chemical, electrical, computer, and civil engineering. A full list can be found on the UC's admissions website.

While first-year students who apply by the Nov. 30 deadline usually receive their admissions decision starting March 1, those who utilize the extended deadline will most likely receive their decisions later than normal. Transfer students should receive their admissions decision in the spring, usually between March and April.

According to the Public Policy Institute of California, community college transfers make up 29% of new enrollees at UC. For campuses that extended their admissions deadlines, the transfer admittance rate varies, from just over 43% at UC Irvine to 66% at UC Merced.
