Fall To-Do Lists for High School Students

RISING SENIORS

  • Start working on your applications before school starts!

  • Finish up your college visits.

  • Plan your Early Decision and/or Early Action strategy.

  • Meet with your college counselor to review your college list and discuss your application strategy.

  • Meet with college reps when they visit your school.

  • Confirm that your recommenders are writing letters for you. Remember to thank them.

  • Put effort into your leadership positions.

  • Work hard in your classes right away-your early grades will be sent to colleges.

  • Take advantage of interview opportunities at colleges that offer them.

RISING JUNIORS

  • Sign up for standardized test dates.

  • Make a plan for when you will visit colleges, either during days off of school or over vacations.

  • Decide which extracurricular activities you want to participate in.

  • Cultivate relationships with teachers who might write your letters of recommendation for college.

  • Think about plans for next summer. Many programs fill up by the winter.

RISING SOPHOMORES

  • Think about which extracurricular activities you want to focus on.

  • Be thoughtful about which electives you are taking.

  • Make plans for next summer.

RISING FRESHMEN

  • Make a tentative plan about which classes you will take over the next four years.

  • Meet with your teachers before any big assignments or to get extra help if you need it.

  • Attend the club fair to learn about the different activities at your school. Join a few clubs or a sports team.
