A Food Guide to Caltech

If you keep up with my blogs, then by now you know that I am a big foodie and a big picture person. Especially at Caltech, where the work can be stressful, everyone needs to unwind, and a good meal can do that for me. I recently wrote about my favorite restaurants in the SoCal area, but now, I want to share all the food on-campus. To give some overview before my ranking, Caltech dining has four main places you can eat at that are open at different times. For starters, Browne Dining Hall is the most traditional dining hall option, serving wood-fired pizza, sushi, sandwiches, a daily special, a grill station, and a salad bar. Then, we have Red Door Cafe, open until 2 AM for students, where you can get drinks, baked goods, salads, and sandwiches. Broad Cafe is our next (and best) dining option, serving weekly specials, sandwiches, and drinks. Lastly, we have an extra weekday lunch option at Avery House where they serve customized ramen bowls!

Now that you know all of the places, here are my top 10 favorites with pictures (not in any particular order):

  • Browne Dining Hall – Create Your Own Woodfired Pizza

I always create my own with pesto, mozzarella cheese, chicken, roasted garlic, mushrooms, and arugula.
  • Browne Dining Hall – Mongolian Station

  • Broad Café – Special Sandwiches (This one is The Bollywood Roll Special! Other specials have been an Italian sandwich and a crispy hot chicken sandwich)
  • Broad Café – Berries and Banana Nutella Toast

Hopefully, you were able to get a good idea of dining at Caltech from my favorite meals on-campus!

  1. Hello Riya, I wanted to ask if there were any gluten free options available. I have celiac, so I’m just being safe and curious 🙂 Thanks for the awesome pictures by the way! I like how descriptive you were about the dining place options.
